OLA Coaching Requirements

Minimum requirements are set for ALL bench personnel by the Ontario Lacrosse Association.

  1. Coaches must be properly NCCP-certified for the age division that they are coaching.
  2. Coaches must be properly registered with the OLA through Sportzsoft.
  3. Bench personnel over the age of 18 must complete their screening requirements according to the OLA’s Screening Policy.

NCCP Certified

This means that coaches at the U13 level and below must have taken the Community Development clinic offered by the OLA. Coaches at the U15 level and above must in addition complete the Competitive Introduction clinic.

In addition, every coach must complete the Making Headway concussion awareness online module as well as the Making Ethical Decisions online module.

Registration through Sportzsoft

Each coach must register themselves via Sportzsoft for the appropriate level. Products available are as follows and are set by the OLA:

  1. BOX Coach House League ONLY
  2. BOX Coach (U13 & below)
  3. BOX Coach (U15 & above)

**Please note – DO NOT register yourself as a BOX Coach + Trainer UNLESS you have all the proper requirements.**

Registration must include an up to date print out of your “locker” page. Instructions for obtaining this are as follows. Sign into your locker from a computer, go to the certification tab which clearly shows your name and NCCP # and then click on the three vertical dots in the top right-hand corner of your screen. Select "print" and the destination of "save to PDF". This can then be uploaded via Sportzsoft. This print must show the following:

  1. Clearly show your name and NCCP number.
  2. Shows that you have taken the appropriate coach level as indicated above as well as showing the Making Headway and Making Ethical Decisions courses.

Criminal Record check (CRC) or Offense Declaration Form

OLA regulations OR3.01 state the following:

OR3.01(a) All OLA bench personnel (coaches, staff, trainers, etc.) and all OLA certified officials (box and field) who are 18 years of age as of January 1st of the current year who coach or officiate athletes 17 years of age or younger must submit a current Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Criminal Record Check) (CRC) upon registering for the current year. For previously approved individuals, an Offense Declaration must be submitted as per OR3.01(b). It is the position of the OLA that all OLA member clubs with additional registered volunteers who have direct contact with athletes 17 years of age or younger also submit a CRC. All OLA employees and Staff must submit a CRC.

OR3.01(b) A current CRC must be submitted by all prospective volunteers to the club’s Privacy Officer for the current year. The CRC must be date stamped no later than the previous calendar year. The CRC will be valid for consecutive years supported by an annual OLA Offense Declaration.

This means that if you volunteered and/or coached last year and had a valid CRC then you must only sign the OLA declaration for this year and future years so long as your volunteer service is consecutive and not interrupted.

CRC’s and declarations must be submitted to the GLA Privacy Officer at the following email address: registrar@gloucester-lacrosse.com
