Jr B Competitive Skills Camps

By Gloucester Lacrosse Association, 11/27/22, 10:30PM EST

The Gloucester Griffins JR B Lacrosse Club, (under the auspices of the Gloucester Lacrosse Association (GLA), will once again offer two separate competitive skills development camps, with 13 sessions on Sunday afternoons, starting on January 8 through to April 2. The PW (U13)/Bantam (U15) will run from 1-2:30pm and the Midget (U17), Intermediate and Junior (U22) from 2:30-4pm. The first 6 sessions will include a professional running coach to teach the players how to run more effectively. Both these camps are being offered in a brand new 'state of the art' field house at the Nation Municipality’s Sports Complex, 243 Limoges Rd, Limoges, Ontario.

The Junior Griffins' Skills Development & Spring training camp are for all midget/U17 and junior/U22 age players that will have the opportunity to play with the Griffins JR B Club as full-time junior players or affiliated player call-ups in 2023 while a combined U13/U15 skills development camp is for competitive level players and/or those planning to try out for competitive teams at those levels. The Griffins' coaching staff will be monitoring player skill sets with a view to the make-up of the Griffins JR B team in 2023, so the expectation is, if you plan to play for the Griffins in 2023 and are currently 'in town', you need to be there! For those younger players attending the age group camp, this is an opportunity to develop as a 'prospect' for future Junior teams and to learn the required skills.

The program will be instructed by the Griffins JR B coaching staff, consisting of Head Coach, D'Arcy Belyea (JR B, SR B), Associate Coach Brett Perras (JR B, JR A, SR B, NLL), Offensive Assistant Coach Aaron Forster (JR B, JR A, NCAA, NLL-Albany), Defensive Assistant Coach Nick Van Dam (Griffins' JR B); Guest Coach Nick Finlay (JR B, JR A, MSL, NLL-Colorado), Guest Coach Steve MacLean (JR A, SR A), Guest Coach Kyle Stavely (JR A, NLL-Halifax)

Defensive systems & concepts taught include: Proper defensive positioning, defending pick and rolls, defending on ball vs off ball;

Transition tactics include- how to attack/defend transition (2 v 1, 3 v 2, 4 v 3).

The camps will be tailored to teaching individual and team skills, including the introduction and development of communication techniques within offensive and defensive strategy that they will require to play JR B lacrosse in 2021 or within the next few years (bearing in mind that midget players may affiliate up to the JR B team); and will include the integration of the JR B Griffins’ defensive systems and offensive concepts, how to structure a five man offence and defensive concepts including playing a defensive wall system and how to attack/defend transition (2 v 1, 3 v 2, 4 v 3).
