Director of Competitive – Gloucester Lacrosse Association

Gloucester Lacrosse Association is looking for a person to fill the role of the Director of Competitive. This position will report to the Board of Directors and will be responsible in overseeing the Association’s competitive lacrosse program. This position is for one year and will begin immediately after the selection process. An honorarium will be given to the successful candidate.

The ideal candidate is a person with varied lacrosse experience in such areas as: playing, coaching, management and administration. They would possess a NCCP Level 1 or 2 coaching certificate. If not, the expectation would be they take the training in the 2020 season.

In addition, the ideal applicant would be a non-parent candidate, however this is not a mandatory requirement to apply and be selected.

Roles and responsibilities incumbent to this position include:

Coach Selection:

Review coaching applications as Chair of the Coach Selection Committee (CSC) following a public advertisement. The CSC will recommend Head Coach for each competitive team to the Executive for approval.In the event a conflict of interest arises (e.g., a member of the CSC applies for a coaching position), then an impartial committee member(s) from the Board of Directors will be appointed to act in the capacity of that CSC member.

Once complete the Director of Competitive will work with the selected Head Coach to complete the coaching staff’s after the tryouts are complete.

Working with Coaches:

  • Responsible to plan and implement the Try out sessions for all competitive teams. This will involve but not limited to securing floor time; and coordinating on floor assistants, evaluators and selection of the team’s with the Head Coaches.
  • Responsible for informing coaches of all OLA and Zone 5 regulations and rule changes
  • Ensure competitive teams’ documentation is submitted with rosters to the Registrar in accordance with OLA deadlines
  • Coordinate with the selected coaching staff and Board of Directors, the selection of Competitive Tournaments
  • Responsible to ensure all coaches have the correct training and OLA card designation to be on a bench. This includes but not limited to coaching clinics and the Head Start Program
  • Look to onboard and implement Technical Training and Systems working with the Coaching Staff at each level

Communicating & Liaising with a Variety of Stakeholders:

  • Liaise between all Competitive Coaches and the Board of Directors
  • Act as a liaison between the GLA and the Junior B Griffins Lacrosse Program for the running of the Intermediate Program
  • Responsible for settling any minor disputes concerning the Competitive Teams as the main point of contact for Coaching Staff and Managers

Other Responsibilities:

  • Carry out other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors throughout the season.
  • Participate in the Board of Directors, Budget, Release, Disciplinary and Tournament committees where and when required
  • Submit a brief report at each Board of Directors meeting on season status
