Griffins Junior CUpdated Thursday April 27, 2017 by Gloucester Minor Lacrosse Association.
The GLA post-midget program consists of the Junior C team and if sufficient numbers permit, an Intermediate team. Priority goes to manning the Junior C team first. Our aim is provide an opportunity to continue playing lacrosse for Ottawa-based players not selected to a local Junior B team.
The Gloucester Griffins Junior C team is operated by the GLA and is a member of the Ontario Junior C Lacrosse League (OJCLL). Junior aged players living in in Ottawa are eligible to complete for a roster spot on the Junior C Team (including players not selected to the rosters for the Gloucester or Nepean Jr B teams). The team plays 16 regular season games between the start of May and the start of July. Playoffs begin immediately after the season for the top 6 of the 7 teams in the Eastern Conference as a member of the OJCLL.
If numbers permit (minimum of 10 runners and one goalie after the Junior C team is fully manned), and the staff of the Junior C team feels sufficient commitment on the part of the players exists, an Intermediate team will be fielded for those players who will not see regular floor time with the Junior C team. The Intermediate team will be entered into a tournament(s) + provincials. Games will be played opponents (both zone & out-of-zone) if there is satisfactory player participation. Out-of-zone games will be co-ordinated at the same time as Junior C away trips so that bus transportation can be shared. This minimizes costs and makes call-ups from the Intermediate team to the Jr C team more reliable.
Players interested in playing post-midget lacrosse in Gloucester are highly encouraged to attend the Gloucester Griffins Junior B conditioning and selection camps. As the Junior B team begins selecting their players and assigning players to the Junior C team, our training camp will begin (check this web site for dates, timings and locations). The top 18 runners and two goalies will be offered positions on the Junior C team, remaining players will be assigned to the GLA Intermediate team to be called up as needed.
The Junior C team and the potential Intermediate team are treated as one entity; they practice together and are coached by the same staff. If both a Junior C and Intermediate team are formed, being assigned to one of them at the beginning of the season does not guarantee you will remain on that team for the entire season or the Junior playoffs. Movement between the rosters will occur based on player performance. The playoff roster of the Junior C team will be based on the best 18 runners and two goalies available, regardless of original assignment!
