Competitive Box Lacrosse

About the GLA Competitive Program

The GLA holds competitive team tryouts for both boys and girls teams in early April. Our competitive teams play a zone game schedule against other Zone 5 clubs including Akwesasne, Cornwall, Kahnawake, Kingston, and Nepean. In addition to the zone schedule, competitive teams compete in 3 or 4 tournaments (June/July) and the Ontario Provincial Lacrosse Championships (www.ontariolacrossefestival.com) in early August.

As per the GLA policy, competitive players are expected to play on the competitive team they are assigned, and to be committed to practices, zone games and tournaments. It will be very difficult to play competitive lacrosse and another spring or summer sport. It is expected that the Gloucester Griffins program and activities will be considered the priority sports commitment for our competitive players. If players aren't showing commitment required to participate at the competitive level they will be referred to the House League program.

For more information please contact GLA Vice-President of Programs Shawn Doyle.

2017 GLA Competitive Team Coaches

The competitive coach selection process resulted in the following ranking of GLA competitive coaching candidates:

  • Tyke – JP Lepage
  • Novice - Chris Lamoureux (1), candidate name (2)
  • PeeWee – Mike Maunders (1), Trevor Dubien (2)
  • Bantam – Jeff Hartley (1), Doug Taylor (2), Sean Somers (3)
  • Midget – Ben Albert
  • Junior C – Jeff Hartley
  • Intermediate – To be assigned from Jr C coaching staff should registration numbers warrant forming a team.

Note: Vacancies will be filled on an as needed basis going forward this season.

Tryouts and Assignment of a Team to a Coach - GLA competitive coaching candidates are ranked to ensure all players are given an equal opportunity to compete for a roster spot at tryouts.  Being the first ranked candidate does not guarantee the coach’s son/daughter a roster spot on the #1 team, nor does being the second ranked coach mean the coaches son/daughter will be assigned to the #2 team by default.  The first ranked candidate has the first choice of GLA competitive team to coach (presumably the team that their son/daughter is assigned to after tryouts).
