GLA Post-Midget Program Townhall Meeting

Bob MacQuarrie Recreation Complex (Chateau Neuf Room), Wednesday September 13th, 2017

Updated Wednesday September 6, 2017 by Gloucester Lacrosse Association.

The Gloucester Lacrosse Association (GLA) would like to solicit feedback from our membership on Post-Midget Lacrosse. Currently, the options available are Junior B, Junior C and if numbers permit, an Intermediate Program.

The Junior B Club is privately owned and associated to the GLA. The Junior C and Intermediate teams are owned and operated by the GLA.  In the eyes of the Ontario Lacrosse Association, the Intermediate level falls under Minor Lacrosse. This program would has the Intermediate team play the same style scdule as the minor teams including Zone games, OLA tournaments and the OLA Festival (Provincials). The Junior C program falls under Junior Lacrosse and is governed by its own council. The Junior C team plays an 16 game schedule, including three weekends of “away” games. Based on numbers and financial viability, the GLA is purposing that we explore running only one of these two options next season – Junior C or Intermediate - not both.

Of note, currently within Zone 5, only Cornwall and Gloucester run a Junior C Program. Nepean runs the only Intermediate Program. Our goal is to continue to allow as many young adults to play lacrosse after they complete Midget. To do this successfully and to meet the commitment required, it is believed that one team is the best option. A decision must be made on this as quickly as we are required to register our teams for next season before September 30, 2017.

The GLA Executive will hold a town hall 7-9 pm on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at the Bob MacQuarrie Recreation Complex - Chateau Neuf meeting room, for an open discussion on this topic. For those unable to attend the town hall, please send your thoughts on this matter to me via e-mail. I will take all of the information forward to the other members of the Executive. It is our intention to make a decision by September 22nd on how we will proceed next season.
