Griffins win Gold with Team Ontario

Congrats to Griffins players Camryn Gallagher (Midget) and Leah Young (Bantam), both members of the Team Ontario Girls teams who won Gold at the 2016 National Championships in Calgary, July 18-23!
Both players took part in the Team Ontario Player Identification camp held in May in the GTA and were selected to represent the province in the 6 day national tournament held in Calgary. This is Gallagher's second year as a member of Team Ontario and Young's first.
- The Team Ontario Bantam Girls finished 5-1 in the round robin to set up a finals match against Team British Columbia. Team Ontario built up a 3-0 lead mid-way through the 2nd period before Team BC answered to cut the deficit to 3-1. From there the Team Ontario Bantam's shut the door and captured the gold medal with a 4-1 win.
- The Midget Girls Team Ontario stumbled out of the gate losing their first two round robin games, before turning things around and winning their next four games to set up the gold medal game versus Team British Columbia. Team BC took advantage of 10 minutes in first period penalties to Team Ontario and built up at a 3-1 lead going into the 2nd period. Team Ontario would bounce back to tie the game at 3-3, before Team BC scored again to take 4-3 lead into the 3rd. Team Ontario would not be denied, scoring the a goal 10 seconds into the 3rd period to tie the game at 4-4. Five minutes later Gallagher scored to put Team Ontario ahead 5-4. Team Ontario capitalized on the momentum with quick insurance goal 30 seconds later to lead 6-4. Team BC answered back to make it 6-5, but Team Ontario then dug in and held off the Team BC attack to win gold 7-5. Congrats to Gallagher for being selected as the Team Ontario MVP in the gold medal game!
