Success at the Centre Wellington Tournament

On the weekend of June 10th, 11th and 12th, the Gloucester Lacrosse Tournament's Girls teams travelled to Center Wellington. Our PeeWee Girls team, playing in their first games of the season, went 2 and 1 in the round robin and ultimately, fell to Centre Wellington 2-1 in the finals Sunday afternoon. Their 4-3 defeat of the Whitby team marks the first time a Gloucester team has defeated a "Whitby 1" team at any level or tournament !! Congratulations to the girls for their success.

Our Midget team played against some well established teams from Niagara on the Lake, Six Nations, Kitchener/Waterloo and Hamilton in the round-robin. Despite our relative inexperience, the girls showed amazing team spirit, work ethic and sportsmanship during all their games.

Both teams continue their league play and practice schedule in preparation for Provincials being held in Whitby this July.

UPDATE on the GLA Girl's Lacrosse programme - March 31st

Hello everyone and welcome to the 2011 GLA Lacrosse season. Being the start of the season there is a lot of information to get passed out to everyone regarding times and places for the girls to be. Please keep checking the website for new or amended information.

First, I must say that we have had some wonderful success with recruiting this year and I think that a lot of credit has to go to last year's players who told their friends about the fun they had. We have increased our overall number of girl players by well over double. As a result, we will be able to offer an all girls House League for the Peewee Division (Novice and Peewee combined) and a Competitive team from amongst those players (Novice and PeeWee). Similar to last season, there will only be enough players for one Midget team (Midget and Bantam combined) and they will play as a Competitive team.

Scheduling: I have received many questions regarding the HL and Competitive schedules and I can tell you this: each house league team will have 2 hours of practices or games during the week as is the practice for all GLA HL teams.

Competitive teams will also play or practice at least once per week and typically have an event each weekend. Zone games will be held in Nepean, Gloucester and Kahnawake. Other games may be arranged with other associations as time permits. The teams will also compete in one tournament in the Toronto area as well as the Provincial Lacrosse Festival in Whitby - Tuesday August 2nd to Thursday August 4th.

The schedule will not be finalized until after the April 9th registration but our current plans look like:

Girls Novice/PeeWee House LeagueMonday/Wednesday
Girls Novice/PeeWee CompetitiveTuesday/Thursday (Practices)
Girls Bantam/Midget CompetitiveMonday/Wednesday (Practices)

Please note that the April schedule may be at bit more chaotic but will settle down for May onwards.

Some very exciting news for the Competitive teams; we have been approved to host a Peewee and Midget Division in the annual GLA Ray Broadworth Tournament from July 1st to 3rd. I hope that many of the girls from all levels will come out and enjoy the great lacrosse that the tournament offers and cheer on our Girl Griffins.

The current schedule for Girls Lacrosse can be found at the Schedule page.

I still need more volunteers to help coach teams at both the Peewee and Midget level. In order for this program to succeed, the girls need your support! There will be mentoring for new coaches so please don't be afraid to step up. All levels of experience and knowledge are appreciated and will make your daughter's experience a better one.
