2013 A/AA Field Lacrosse Festival - Looking for Volunteers

The 2013 A/AA Field Lacrosse Festival is looking for volunteers.

OFSAA (Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations) is the provincial championship for High School sports. Each year a different region within the province hosts the championships for various sports, and this year Ottawa has been lucky enough to win the privilege of hosting for A/AA Lacrosse.

As you are all well aware, successful events rely heavily on volunteers and the Festival organizations are looking for gate keepers, score keepers, timers, etc. A list of sample duties is available for download: http://www.gloucester-lacrosse.com/pdf/OFSAA.pdf.

Top-level senior box lacrosse returns to National Capital Region

Lacrosse fans in the National Capital Region now have a new opportunity to watch the sport played at a high level. The National Capital Region Axemen are a new team in the Quebec Senior Lacrosse League (QSLL). Their season will be launched Saturday May 18th at 8 pm with the team's home opening game versus the Snake Island Muskies at the Howard Darwin Arena (formerly named Merivale Arena).

The Axemen expect to be highly competitive in the QSLL for the 2013 season with a line-up of players with abundant professional and senior lacrosse experience. Jason Tasse, Chris Konopliff and Pat Collins all played for the Ottawa Rebel, this city's National Lacrosse League team from 2001-2003. The Axemen also boast young guns such as Tim Bergin (second in QSLL scoring in 2012), Raj Wasson, Curtis Singleton and Bryson Goodman, who have all had tremendous success playing in the QSLL in recent seasons. The return of Senior lacrosse to the area will also provide an opportunity down the road for Junior and minor players from both the Nepean Knights and Gloucester Griffins organizations.

The Axemen will play a 16-game regular season versus QSLL opponents, including interlocking games with teams from the Three Nations Senior Lacrosse League of the Iroquois Lacrosse Association. The Kahnawake Mohawks of the QSLL are this year's host for the Canadian Senior B President's Cup championships from August 26th to September 1st.

Axemen head coach Sean Moran is optimistic for the season ahead. "We have a perfect blend of youthful energy and exuberance with veteran experience. The Axemen have a talented and hard-working line-up from the goalies on out. Fans in the National Capital Region have a great opportunity to watch fast-paced and highly-skilled lacrosse over the next three months."
